Install Intel Cilk and get it working on Debian/Ubuntu 64.
Intel Cilk and Cilk Plus are general programming languages designed for multi-threaded parallel computing. They are based on the C and C++ programming languages and extend these to express parallel loops and take advantage of modern multi-core processors.
Below are steps to install and get started with Intel Cilk.
1) Register and download a copy of Intel Parallel studio from Intel's website.
2) Extract the package into a directory and go into it.
3) Run the following commands to install the parallel studio software:
$ sudo apt-get install alien
$ sudo ./install_GUI.sh for a GUI based installation.
4)You may choose to use a text based installation instead. Go through the dialogue boxes and say next etc. You will be asked to enter a license number during this which you can find in the email you used to register while downloading this.
5) After the installation finishes you need to add the path of installation to your .bashrc file. Do this with following commands:
$ cd ~
$ nano .bashrc
append the below line at the end of the file:
source install_directory_path/bin/compilervars.sh intel64
save the file and close it. Type bash on the terminal to reload the changes made to .bashrc file.
6) This completes the installation of Intel Parallel Studio on you Computer.
7) Next we install CilkPlus tools which will let us use cilkscreen and cilkview.
8) Download and extract cilktools package from cilkplus.org website.
9) Again add the path of the extracted cilkplus directory to the .bashrc file. Add the following line to your .bashrc to achieve this:
export PATH=cilktools_extracted_directory_path/bin/:$PATH
10) Reload .bashrc by typing bash in a terminal and type cilkscreen or cilkview to see if they are installed. If errors such as "cilkview/cilkscreen: file not found" or "error while loading shared libraries" are thrown, go to the next step.
11) Run the following commands to rectify the errors:
$ sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
$ apt-get update
$ apt-get install libc6:i386
$ apt-get install ia32-libs
12) Type cilkscreen or cilkview on terminal to see if they are working. You may now try the sample file provided which should be located in the install directory for Intel Parallel studio.
